5. Will Israel Strike Iran by W. Thomas Smith, Jr. In a recent piece for the Washington Post, Israeli commentator Yossi Melman writes: "No decision to attack Iran has been made in Israel" and it is "a matter of at least one year" before any decision will be made. Melman's words seem enough to convince the editorial staffs of publications like the Post and the Nation. But sources inside the U.S. intelligence and Defense communities are telling us, there is an increasing "probability" that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) will soon strike Iranian nuclear facilities. The strikes -- if they take place -- will be far more extensive than that which occurred during the strike against Iraq's Osirak nuclear facility in 1981. The new strikes will target much more than just the nuclear sites. The extent to which America will or will not provide support will depend on multiple variables. And the strikes will not be over in a single night.
4. Will Rookie Mistakes Sink Obama? by Jennifer Rubin Hillary Clinton must be fuming. Only a month after sewing up the nomination, Barack Obama's claim to be the Agent of Change is already unraveling He is proving belatedly that Bill and Hillary's prediction was right: he is not ready for prime time. Even the New York Times is mad at him, accusing him of false advertising. (“Mr. Obama's shifts are striking because he was the candidate who proposed to change the face of politics, the man of passionate convictions who did not play old political games.”). For once it's hard to quibble with the Grey Lady.
3. Let's Solve the Tanker Mess by Gen. John Handy Most of us in the Air Force mobility community were a bit surprised by the decision to buy the quite large Airbus-330 tanker instead of the smaller Boeing 767 tanker. But the real shock was in the unusually harsh language used by the Government Accountability Office in overturning that decision. It was the harshest language used to overturn an action by the Air Force that I have read in my entire career. (Continued Below)
2. Independence Day Every Day by Ted Nugent The Nugent family celebrates Independence Day every day of the year. If you spend as much time as we do sharing campfires, both literally and figuratively, with the hero warriors of the United States Military, you can't help but deeply appreciate and absolutely cherish the freedoms and liberties so unique here in America that is guaranteed us by the sacrifices made by these amazing, courageous men and women.
1. The Washington Post: Journalistic Magicians by Seton Motley On Sunday, the Washington Post's Jonathan Weisman gave us a 1,152 word news-ish story entitled "Obama Addresses His Faith", which was a glowingly open forum for Obama to deliver "a highly personal account of his spiritual journey" and in which he proffered "a promise that he will make 'faith-based' social service 'a moral center of (his) administration.'" It's hard to read the word "faith" in the same sentence as the name "Barack Obama" without thinking of the racist, anti-American radical Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who for twenty years served as the Senator's pastor, and (as Obama described him) his "spiritual advisor" and "mentor", in Chicago's Trinity United Church of Christ. It cannot be accidental that the Washington Post made no mention whatsoever of Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Trinity United in a piece dedicated exclusively to the Senator's religion.
