Shabbat Shalom

The closing verses of Psalm 92 are reminiscent of Psalm 1 that sees the godly person as a tree planted "by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither" (Ps 1:3). The righteous will flourish like a palm tree. The palm tree was noteworthy for two reasons. It was green perpetually and the heavier its crop, the deeper its roots. The life that trusts in God has eternity in view and has the vitality and strength of character enabling it to bear much fruit of a high quality. It is like a cedar of Lebanon. The cedar is majestic in appearance. In addition, it is noted for its strength and durability. The figure of a fruitful tree continues in verses 13 and 14, but with the additional note that the secret of its strength and fruitfulness is its location in the house of the Lord, and that its productivity is enduring—even in old age.
