5. NY Times Rejection Letter to John McCain by Mac Johnson Editor's note: It was recently revealed that the New York Times, after publishing an editorial from Democratic Presidential Savior/Candidate Barack Obama on the need for immediate surrender in Iraq, rejected a counterpoint editorial from post-maverick Senator John McCain, the Republican nominee for President. This apparent double standard has led many to speculate on the reasons behind the Times rejection of McCain. Happily, Human Events has obtained a copy of the rejection letter, which is reprinted for the record below.
4. A Paine in the EU by John Gizzi "Good evening, my name is Thomas Paine," a gentleman in full colonial garb introduced himself to me at Philadelphia's historic City Tavern Restaurant on the evening of July 12. "Mr. Paine" told me how he and Benjamin Franklin and other Philadelphians had been meeting at the same tavern where I was dining, that they had some rather revolutionary ideas and he had put them down in the pamphlet he brandished—Common Sense. While my fellow guests and I might find Common Sense rather incendiary, Mr. Paine promised that people were beginning to read it and to start questioning the colonial government ruled from far away, and there might be fireworks.
3. Rockbama Plays Baghdad by Jed Babbin It's not, as the Washington Post declared melodramatically, that Obama's "foreign policy credentials are at stake" in his tour of the Middle East and Europe this week. Obama has no credentials to risk. It's closer to what the Agence France-Presse wrote: Obama's audition for the part of commander-in-chief. Fortunately for the Illinois naïf, all three network news anchors -- CBS's Katie Couric, ABC's Charlie Gibson and NBC's Brian Williams -- have decided to accompany Obama on his credibility-invention tour. (Continued Below)
2. GObama Watch: Democrats (Finally) Angry About Security Breach by Lisa De Pasquale The ACORN Doesn't Fall Far From the Tree Barack Obama has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a group that engages in voter registration efforts that ultimately help elect their leftist candidates by any means necessary. Obama worked on their voter registration drive in 1992 and sued the state on behalf of ACORN in a "Motor Voter" case.
