5. Air Force's Cultural Shake-Up By Robert Maginnis Last week, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates made history when he simultaneously fired the Air Force's top military and civilian leaders. Most press accounts attribute the head chopping to a series of institutional failures but the truth is that Gates' real objective is to radically change the service's culture.
4. Obamanomics By Jennifer Rubin Having finally stumbled across the finish line and secured the Democratic nomination Barack Obama hit the road this week with an economic tour to convince voters he is not a traditional tax and spend liberal. This will be tough because he likes tax increases and spending the tax payers' money and is very liberal.
3. Obama and the New Party By Erick Erickson Two weeks ago at RedState, we documented Obama's 1996 endorsement by the New Party. A review of the New Party establishes that not only was the party an amalgamation of far left groups, but Barack Obama knew that when he sought the party's endorsement. Most of the New Party's history has been lost in the digital age. It was established in 1992 and started to die out in 1998, well before Google and the modern web were established. But through lengthy searches of the Nexis archive and microfilm at the local university library, I've been able to piece this together. (Continued Below)
2. Don't Blame McCain By Jed Babbin What's going on inside the McCain campaign? Maybe I've read too much Conan Doyle and Le Carre. Maybe too much of my young professional life was spent in the company of people who built satellites to detect faint electronic signals in enemy lands. Nevertheless, there are too many faint signals coming out of McCain's inner circle to ignore. And they do not bode well for the candidate.
1. The Aftershocks of Gay Marriage: Part II By Gary Bauer While the mainstream media continues largely to ignore the issue, it became clear to me this week, given the robust response of HUMAN EVENTS' readers to my column on the implications of same-sex "marriage" in California, that for a great many Americans, marriage still matters. And as the California State Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to put a hold on its radical ruling, same-sex "marriages" are schedule to begin this month. You might think that the liberal establishment would be playing a wedding march and detailing the implications of their judicial coup. But instead all we hear is silence from Big Media regarding this high-handed, cataclysmic shift in public policy. There is also a lot of misinformation widely available on the internet.
